Arsenal secured a narrow victory at the Stadium of Light thanks to crucial contributions from Bruno Guimaraes and David Raya following a tense second half.

Sunderland showed spirit, with Dan Ballard winning a penalty and forcing a save from Raya late on. Nordi Mukiele and Noah Sadiki worked hard, but the Black Cats lacked cutting edge in the final third.

Arsenal struggled to break down Sunderland early, with Bukayo Saka missing a key chance. David Raya kept his side in it with a superb penalty save before Guimaraes struck a brilliant goal moments later.

Substitute Jurrien Timber helped shore up the defence, while Granit Xhaka provided quality set-pieces. Despite late pressure from Sunderland, Arsenal held on for the points.
