Google DeepMind has opened up Gemini 2.0 Flash's native image generation to all developers, after testing it with trusted testers since December. The experimental model (gemini-2.0-flash-exp) is now accessible through Google AI Studio and the Gemini API across all supported regions.

The model combines multimodal input, enhanced reasoning, and natural language understanding in a single system. Unlike many image generators, it maintains character and setting consistency across story illustrations, handles multi-turn conversational editing, and leverages world knowledge to create realistic imagery—like accurately illustrating a recipe.

Text rendering represents a particular strength. Internal benchmarks show Gemini 2.0 Flash outperforms leading competitors at accurately rendering long text sequences, making it suitable for advertisements, social posts, and invitations without the misspellings or illegible characters that plague other models.

Developers can start experimenting via the Gemini API. Google is collecting feedback to finalize a production-ready version.
