Google DeepMind and Isomorphic Labs are sharing a joint approach to bioresilience, aiming to prevent threat actors from misusing AI models while enabling governments, scientists, and experts to harness these technologies for a more resilient world. Over the past 12 months, they have advanced more than 15 partnerships with government bodies, biosecurity organizations, and research groups.

Breakthroughs like AlphaFold, which mapped the 3D structures of nearly all known proteins, and Isomorphic Labs' AI-powered Drug Design Engine (IsoDDE) are shifting the balance from reaction to proactive defense. Their work spans three areas: prevention, detection, and response. For prevention, they follow a four-step safety process for models like Gemini and are adapting SynthID watermarking to biology to help DNA synthesis providers screen for risky AI-generated sequences. For detection, AlphaEvolve optimizes algorithms for metagenomic sequencing, enabling faster, cheaper outbreak tracking, while AlphaGenome and protein function annotation help identify novel pathogens. For response, trusted researchers gain access to latest AI systems to accelerate vaccine design, and Isomorphic Labs has established a focused unit to rapidly deploy its drug design engine for medical countermeasures against both natural pandemics and AI misuse risks.

This effort aligns with their Frontier Safety Framework and broader Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) risk management. They remain committed to open collaboration with biosecurity labs, governments, and the scientific community to ensure AI is developed responsibly to protect against one of society's greatest risks.
