Flutter Portfolio Challenge: The Other Side

Robert Ishoka submitted THE OTHER SIDE to Google's New Year, New You Portfolio Challenge. The mobile developer aimed to create an interactive space, not a standard website. Inspired by Stranger Things' parallel worlds, he built a portfolio where users navigate dimensions, not just scroll through resumes. The project transformed a coding challenge into a world-building experiment.

Using Flutter Web, Ishoka focused on feel over pure functionality. He wrestled with scrolling physics and transitions to make every interaction feel weighty and intentional. The portfolio features a Konami Code easter egg and a Dimension Switching Engine that mutates the entire app's color, typography, and layout instantly. This required extensive optimization to avoid frame drops.

Ishoka used Google's Antigravity AI as a pair-programming assistant. The AI helped debug a persistent Nginx configuration issue during Google Cloud Run deployments, speeding up iteration. His goal was to prove the web can be more than forms, creating a mysterious, exploratory experience that rewards curiosity.
