Vitalik Buterin outlined a major Ethereum evolution combining PeerDAS with ZK-EVMs, aiming to solve the scaling trilemma with live code. PeerDAS is live, sampling data availability to boost capacity, while ZK-EVMs are targeting validator use by 2026. This multi-year roadmap promises large gas-limit increases and distributed block building to reduce censorship risk.

ERC-8004 moved to v1.0, advancing Ethereum’s role as a coordination layer for autonomous software agents. The update migrates identity to ERC-721 NFTs and puts reputation on-chain, requiring cryptographic authorization. It aligns with Account Abstraction, letting smart wallets manage agent keys and policies without address changes, a critical step for long-lived agents.

Ambire enabled custom ERC-4337 bundlers per network, letting developers plug alternative infrastructure into wallet flows. Paymaster support remains intact for smart accounts and EIP-7702 delegated EOAs. The team called for coordination on gas price handling to reduce fragmentation.

BlackRock identified Ethereum as the top stablecoin settlement standard by 2026, citing its maturity and decentralization. With deep liquidity and institutional products already on-chain, the firm sees Ethereum as a neutral layer for finance.
