Zimbabwe launched their T20 World Cup campaign with a dominant eight-wicket victory over Oman in Colombo. The Chevrons restricted Oman to just 103 runs, with Blessing Muzarabani leading the bowling attack with 3-16. Oman's top order collapsed to 27-5 before Sufyan Mehmood and Vinayak Shukla steadied the innings with a 44-run partnership.

Brian Bennett top-scored for Oman with 28 off 21 balls, while Mehmood contributed 25 off 39 deliveries. Only three Oman players reached double figures, with Nadeem Khan hitting their sole six before being dismissed by Bennett's superb diving catch. Richard Ngarava and Brad Evans also chipped in with three wickets each.

Chasing 104, Zimbabwe made light work of the target, reaching 106-2 in just 13.3 overs. Bennett anchored the innings with an unbeaten 48 off 36 balls, including seven fours. The only setback came when Brendan Taylor retired hurt on 31 with a hamstring injury. Sikandar Raza hit the winning runs as Zimbabwe bounced back from failing to qualify for the previous World Cup.
