The lead changed hands multiple times before half-time, with Ben Jones-Bishop and Caleb Hamlin-Uele exchanging tries. Oliver Pratt scored twice for Wakefield, while Max Jowitt nailed both conversions to give Trinity a 12-10 halftime advantage.

Wakefield dominated the second half as Johnstone's brace, sandwiched around Nikau Williams' try, put the game beyond York's reach. Pratt added a late score to complete the scoring. The victory came on the same day Wakefield announced NRL star Roger Tuivasa-Sheck's signing on a two-year deal for next season.
