Jonas Vingegaard put on a masterclass on the Blockhaus climb to win stage seven of the Giro d'Italia, completing his set of Grand Tour stage victories. The Dane launched his decisive attack with 5.5km remaining on the 13.6km ascent featuring gradients up to 14%. No one could match his power, and he set a record time of 38 minutes 22 seconds for the climb.

Vingegaard crossed the line in 6hrs 9mins 15secs, beating Felix Gall by 13 seconds and Jai Hindley by over a minute. The 244km stage was the longest of this year's Grand Tour. His victory moved him from eighth into second place overall, 3min 17sec behind leader Afonso Eulalio. Gall sits 17 seconds behind Vingegaard in third.

"I'm definitely happy that I could take back some time," Vingegaard said, acknowledging Felix Gall as a serious rival. The Dane, making his Giro debut, has now won stages across all three Grand Tours. With the race still young, his Blockhaus surge proved he's a genuine contender for the maglia rosa.
