David Parrish, a 35-year-old ultra-marathon champion from Dumfries, died while attempting to set a record on the Cape Wrath trail in the Scottish Highlands. The experienced runner was found in the remote Kintail area at approximately 10:25 PM on Saturday while running the 234-mile route from Fort William to Cape Wrath.

Parrish, a former Royal Marine, had won the Cape Wrath Trail race in 2023 despite only competing for a few years. He was fundraising for Scottish Mountain Rescue in memory of his friend Luke Ireland when the tragedy occurred. The trail covers Lochaber, Knoydart, Applecross and Torridon, considered one of the UK's most challenging routes.

The Dumfries Running Club member began running in his late teens and competed in local races before joining the marines. After leaving service, he participated in Parkruns and walked the Cape Wrath Trail in 2021. Parrish was photographed during the 2023 Cape Wrath event by No Limits Photography, whose owners described him as "such a joyful person and an inspirational ultra marathon athlete."
