Lorcan Tucker has been confirmed as Ireland’s permanent T20I captain ahead of the two‑match series against India at Stormont on 26 and 28 July. The 29‑year‑old wicket‑keeper‑batter brings 159 caps since his 2016 debut and previously led the side on two occasions. His appointment follows a period where Ireland rotated captains across formats for the summer.

An injury list forces Lorcan Tucker to field a weakened XI, with six regulars ruled out: Josh Little, Mark Adair, Paul Stirling, Curtis Campher, Barry McCarthy and Jordan Neill. Debutants Matthew Hollard and Jai Moondra earn their first Ireland call‑ups, while Reuben Wilson makes his T20I bow after a Test debut versus New Zealand. The squad also features veterans Harry and Tim Tector and George Dockrell overall.

With Balbirnie retaining Test duties and Paul Stirling steering the ODI side, Ireland now operates three separate leadership structures. Tucker stresses a “lead from within” ethic, promising honesty and empathy. The fragmented captaincy could test team cohesion, but the fresh faces and seasoned core give Ireland a realistic chance to compete against a strong Indian T20 lineup in Belfast.
