Jamie Smith and Dan Lawrence forged a record 217-run partnership to secure a draw for Surrey against Warwickshire at Edgbaston. Smith struck a polished 132 off 261 balls while Lawrence remained unbeaten on 161 from 258 deliveries, rescuing Surrey from a precarious 65-6 on the first afternoon.

Warwickshire had dominated much of the County Championship fixture, building a 216-run first-innings lead. Their seam attack, led by Ethan Bamber and Beau Webster, created pressure but couldn't break through the resolute fourth-wicket stand. The pitch improved significantly for batting, allowing Surrey to erase their deficit and bat through the final day.

The partnership broke Surrey's previous fourth-wicket record against Warwickshire of 213 set in 1906 by Tom Hayward and Edwin Goatley. Smith and Lawrence's effort came three days after Ben Foakes and Tom Lawes broke a 120-year-old seventh-wicket record in the first innings. Warwickshire coach Ian Westwood praised the quality of cricket despite the draw, noting his team missed key opportunities while acknowledging Surrey's character in salvaging the result.
