Super League confirmed it has received an investment offer from the Australian Rugby League Commission. Discussions have been underway since last year, and the 14 clubs were informed on Thursday, though details remain confidential. Chairman of the National Rugby League, Peter V'landys, warned in October that the competition could crash without new revenue streams.

In April, NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo said fears that a deal would drain talent from Super League were “completely unfounded”. He emphasized a partnership aimed at strengthening rugby league in the UK and Europe, rejecting a feeder‑pathway model. Abdo also noted that the NRL seeks collaboration rather than a takeover.

Head of RL Commercial Rodri Jones called the negotiations “encouraging” and affirmed the sport’s openness to investment, describing the NRL as a natural fit and front leader in talks with various parties. The league, which started in 1996 as a summer competition, saw Hull KR win the Grand Final last year, joining St Helens, Wigan Warriors, Leeds Rhinos and Bradford Bulls as title‑holders. The potential partnership could bring financial stability and global exposure, benefiting players, clubs, and fans alike.
