Scotland Prepares for Fiji Backlash

Scotland's forwards coach, John Dalziel, emphasized that his team is no longer content with mere praise after their loss to South Africa. He stated, "We're not that type of team anymore," and is anticipating a "backlash" from Fiji in their upcoming match at Murrayfield.

Dalziel acknowledged Scotland's struggle to convert opportunities into points, despite creating numerous chances. He noted that "skill errors" and "moments that haven't been there before" were critical in their defeat. However, he believes Scotland is "getting closer" to the game's elite and is on the "right trajectory," with their disappointment stemming from not securing victories.

Coach Gregor Townsend faces Fiji, a team that has previously caused Scotland difficulties, including a loss in Suva last year. Despite Fiji's recent heavy defeats to England and Wales, Dalziel warned against complacency, stating, "We know their quality. They'll be disappointed that their game didn't click last week against England, but we haven't seen many performances like that from them, so we're fully ready for a backlash."

Injuries to Rory Darge and Kyle Steyn will see changes to the Scotland squad, but Townsend has depth to draw upon. Players like Duhan van der Merwe and Darcy Graham may return to the starting lineup, and Gregor Hiddleston and Max Williamson are expected to feature prominently.
