Saffie Osborne has become the first female jockey to win the St Leger, riding Highwayman to victory at Doncaster. "I definitely didn't have this on the bingo card this week," Osborne told ITV Sport after the historic win in the fifth and final Classic of the British Flat season. She thanked trainer Joseph O'Brien and owner John Neocleous for their support. Osborne, daughter of trainer Jamie Osborne, has been a leading jockey in the Racing League for three consecutive seasons from 2022 to 2024.

She also became the first female jockey to win a race at the Dubai Carnival in 2024. The victory continues O'Brien's strong connection with the St Leger, having won it as a jockey on Leading Light in 2013 and as a trainer with Galileo Chrome in 2020.
