Ronnie O'Sullivan made a comfortable start to the new snooker season, winning the first round of the Shanghai Masters Ronnie O'Sullivan took a decisive 6-1 victory over 18‑year‑old Chinese amateur Liu Linhao, a wildcard entry. He compiled four 50‑plus breaks, the highest a 75, setting up a last‑16 meeting with top seed and defending champion Kyren Wilson.

England's four‑time world champion Mark Selby exited early, losing 6‑5 to Zhou Yuelong, the 28‑year‑old local favourite ranked 22. Zhou produced breaks of 83 and 107 to rally from 5‑4 down.

Barry Hawkins defeated Lei Peifan 6‑4 to reach the last 16, while Chris Wakelin cruised 6‑0 against Hewen Tang. Hawkins will face world number one Judd Trump, and Mark Williams and world number two Neil Robertson will meet Xiao Guodong અધ
