Ronnie O'Sullivan has set a new world record in snooker by making the highest-ever professional break of 153 at the World Open in Yushan. The 50-year-old seven-time world champion achieved the feat in the opening frame of his quarter-final match against Ryan Day, setting up a dominant 5-0 victory.

The record-breaking break began when Day failed to escape a snooker, gifting O'Sullivan a free ball. The Rocket potted the green as the 16th red, then cleared 15 reds with 13 blacks and two pinks before finishing with the six colors. This surpasses the previous record of 148 set by Jamie Burnett at the UK Championship qualifiers in 2004.

O'Sullivan expressed his delight after the match, thanking fans for their congratulations. The veteran player will face China's Wu Yize in the semi-finals after Wu defeated Mark Allen 5-1. This latest achievement adds to O'Sullivan's storied career, cementing his status as one of snooker's greatest players.
