Pressure will follow him - Rocky Flintoff faces up to tests ahead

The hype around Rocky Flintoff is inevitable given his name and talent. His father Andrew, or 'Freddie', played 227 times for England and starred in their 2005 Ashes win. David 'Bumble' Lloyd, an early mentor to Flintoff senior, called for the teenager to be "fast tracked" into the full international set-up after his brutal 123 against Somerset.

"He's got everything," Lloyd said. "I think he's an international cricketer."

At 16, Flintoff became Lancashire's youngest player and England Under-19s' and England Lions' youngest centurion. But his career has not been straightforward. Injuries and a preference for Under-19 matches meant he did not feature for Lancashire's first team in 2025, nor in the County Championship since averaging 12.42 across four matches in 2024.

This good form, including 61 not out against Warwickshire, has been timely. "That first hundred for him [against Somerset] is massive," said Lancashire captain Steven Croft. "To get his first one... now he knows he can do it at this level." Croft suggested a return to Lancashire's County Championship XI may not be far away. The teenager's next challenge is doing it consistently at first-class level.
