Rew could open for England after stellar form

Somerset wicketkeeper James Rew has emerged as a potential England opener after hitting 320 runs this summer, according to head coach Jason Kerr. The 22-year-old, primarily batting at four for Somerset, impressed with an 86 against Hampshire and has been tipped to fill the top-order void left by struggling England pair.

England Test team faces significant changes following their Ashes defeat, with established openers Crawley (60 runs) and Duckett (26 runs) struggling for form. Rew, who became the youngest Englishman to score 10 first-class hundreds last year, has a proven track record of scoring runs against all surfaces.

Kerr believes Rew's international recognition is imminent, stating the talented batsman should "knock on the door" regardless of his position. With England's middle-order well-stocked but top positions up for grabs, Rew's consistent performances this season have strengthened his case for an immediate call-up.
