Reece Prescod Joins Enhanced Games, But Says He Won't Dope

Former British sprinter Reece Prescod has signed with the controversial Enhanced Games but insists he will not use performance-enhancing drugs. The 29-year-old, who retired last year due to lack of funding, told the BBC his focus remains on preparation and technique. He is the fourth-fastest British man over 100m, with a personal best of 9.93 seconds.

Scheduled for May 2026 in Las Vegas, the Enhanced Games allows athletes to use banned substances under medical supervision. This approach has drawn sharp criticism from established bodies like UK Athletics and the World Anti-Doping Agency. Prescod, however, views participation as a 'personal choice' and a necessary financial opportunity after struggling to secure sponsorship to continue his career.

Prescod maintains he has competed clean for 15 years and is capable of running sub-10 seconds without enhancement. He believes the event offers a chance to return to sprinting, though he described the availability of substances as merely 'icing on the cake.' His decision highlights the growing divide between traditional sports governance and alternative competitions offering financial incentives.
