Emma Raducanu's French Open ended in the first round as Solana Sierra won 6-0 7-6 (7-4) in an hour and 45 minutes. After dropping a set where she won zero games, the British number one fought back from two breaks down but couldn't convert the momentum.

Sierra, who grew up on clay, broke Raducanu in the opening game and raced to a 6-0 bagel as the Briton hit 15 unforced errors. Raducanu returned for the second set visibly downcast but erased a 4-1 deficit to level at 5-5. After clawing back to 5-4 from 5-1 down in the tie-break, her resistance faded and Sierra sealed the win.

The result extends a tough 2026 season disrupted by post-viral illness that sidelined Raducanu for over two months after Indian Wells in March. Her clay-court preparation was thin, with a first-round loss at Strasbourg her only match on the surface. Sierra now faces Jasmine Paolini or Dayana Yastremska in round two.
