Poland's Maja Chwalinska stunned tennis by reaching the French Open quarter-finals as a qualifier. The 24-year-old world number 114 defeated French player Diane Parry 6-3 6-2. Chwalinska, who took a break from tennis in 2021 due to depression, has won all seven matches at Roland Garros since qualifying began. This remarkable run projects her to break into the world's top 50.

Chwalinska stands as the first qualifier to reach the women's singles quarter-finals at Roland Garros since 2020. Before this tournament, she had won just two tour-level main-draw matches on clay in her career and registered one win in two previous Slam appearances. The beaming Pole shook her head in disbelief after completing her victory on Court Philippe Chatrier, declaring "Nobody knows me, to be honest."

The Polish qualifier faces Russian 22nd seed Anna Kalinskaya next, with a potential semi-final against world number one Aryna Sabalenka awaiting. Meanwhile, American world number 19 Madison Keys exited after losing to Russian 25th seed Diana Shnaider 6-3 3-6 6-0. Shnaider, through to her first Slam quarter-final, will play the winner of the match between Sabalenka and Naomi Osaka.
