Trainer Dan Skelton believes Panic Attack possesses all the qualities needed to become the first mare to win the Grand National in 75 years. The 10-year-old has emerged as a strong contender for Saturday's showpiece at Aintree, challenging 2024 winner I Am Maximus for favoritism. History weighs heavily against her, with Nickel Coin the last mare to claim victory in 1951.

Panic Attack's recent form has been impressive, winning her previous three races including the prestigious Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham and the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury. Her only recent setback came with a third-place finish in the Mares Chase at Cheltenham Festival. Skelton emphasizes her exceptional temperament, jumping ability, and stamina for the grueling four-mile, two-furlong course.

While mares have struggled to contend in recent decades, Skelton remains confident. "I think a mare will win pretty soon and hopefully it's this week," he told BBC Sport. The last mare to place was Magic of Light, who finished second in 2019 for trainer Jessica Harrington. Skelton believes Panic Attack's all-around abilities make her ideally suited to end the long drought for female horses in Britain's most famous steeplechase.
