Dutch rider Olav Kooij secured his maiden Tour de France stage victory on a chaotic fifth stage, crossing the line first in a bunch sprint to Pau. The 24-year-old, in his debut Tour, outpaced Germany's Max Kanter and Belgium's Tim Merlier. The stage was marred by a crash in the final kilometers, impacting several general classification contenders.

Despite being caught in the pile-up, Norway's Torstein Traeen held onto the overall leader's yellow jersey. He finished 14 seconds behind Kooij, alongside Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, and Remco Evenepoel. Traeen now leads the standings by 28 seconds over American Sean Quinn.
