Monaghan confident facing Armagh in Ulster SFC final 2026

Paul McGrane, seven-time Ulster champion and the last Armagh captain to lift the Anglo-Celt Cup in 2008, believes Monaghan will enter Sunday's final with no fear. Kieran McGeeney's Armagh have scored 100 points across three Ulster games, dismantling Down by 28 points in the semi-final, but McGrane insists Monaghan's recent history against them gives them a real edge.

Monaghan arrive at Clones chasing their first Ulster title since 1988 after a forgettable league campaign. McGrane points to their gritty win over Derry, sideline points execution, and the fact that Monaghan's Ulster club champions are playing on home turf. The confidence stems from beating Armagh in the 2023 All-Ireland semi-final and the 2021 Ulster SFC.

McGrane told BBC Sport NI that Monaghan will "relish" the contest, citing their Croke Park shootout victory and a 4-17 to 2-2 triumph at Pairc Esler. Both sides bring equal hunger to Clones, but Monaghan's recent record against Armagh gives them genuine belief they can end a 38-year title drought.
