Megan Keith secured a bronze medal for Scotland in the women's 5000m at the Commonwealth Games, achieving this feat in front of her 100-year-old grandad, Dr Murray Kirkwood. Dr Kirkwood, who had set a goal to reach 100 years old and witness the Games, also has a history with the venue, having delivered the match ball for the Glasgow Warriors before becoming a centenarian.

Keith expressed her joy at performing well for her grandad, stating, "He's proud of me whatever I do but I was so happy to put in a performance I can be proud of alongside him." She admitted that winning a medal in the 5000m was somewhat unexpected, especially after a disappointing ninth-place finish in her preferred 10,000m event earlier in the week. The pressure of expectation was lifted, allowing her to focus on the race.

In the 5000m final, Keith strategically moved up from the pack with four laps remaining. While the Australian duo of Rose Davies and Jessica Hull battled for gold, the crowd cheered on Keith as she secured a strong third place. After the race, she celebrated with fellow Scots Eloise Walker and Laura Muir before seeking out her grandad for a hug, hoping the moment would be a highlight for him.
