Medal ceremonies at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham were postponed after a man was arrested on suspicion of fraud. Transport was also delayed due to the arrest, causing crowds to build up outside the Alexander Stadium. West Midlands Police confirmed a man in his 30s remained in custody.

The evening session ended with Great Britain winning gold medals in the men's and women's 4x100m relays. Tournament organisers stated transport was suspended while security measures were implemented, with operations returning to normal in the early hours of Sunday. Birmingham 2026 emphasized spectator and athlete safety as their top priority and thanked attendees for their patience.

Six medal ceremonies scheduled between 22:00 and 23:00 BST were cancelled. Attendees reported long queues for shuttles and police presence. An official X post apologized for delays and directed people to follow safety personnel instructions.

The crowd reached near its 23,000 capacity limit.
