Mason Jones Targets UFC London Redemption, Top 15 Ranking

Welsh lightweight Mason Jones aims to exorcise his demons at UFC London on March 21, facing Frenchman Axel Sola in front of a home crowd. The 30-year-old suffered a unanimous decision loss to Ludovit Klein at the O2 Arena in July 2023, a defeat he describes as a night where he did "everything wrong."

Jones has rebuilt momentum with four consecutive wins in Cage Warriors before re-signing with the UFC in February 2025. He views Saturday's bout as crucial for his career trajectory, with a victory potentially launching him into contention for a top 15 opponent. "If I beat Axel Sola on March 21, I'll be calling for a top 15 opponent," Jones stated, adding that the UFC has expressed interest in seeing him reach that ranking milestone.

Sola presents a formidable challenge as a 6ft 2in southpaw with one UFC victory, having defeated Northern Ireland's Rhys McKee in Paris last September. Jones has specifically trained with southpaw fighters for this camp, including unbeaten boxer Kyran Jones. The Welsh fighter, currently on a six-fight win streak with a professional record of 17 wins, two losses, and one no-contest, remains focused on his violent fighting style while acknowledging the technical adjustments needed to climb the lightweight rankings.
