Australian swimmer Kaylee McKeown has withdrawn from the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow due to glandular fever. The 24-year-old backstroke star, who holds Olympic, world, and Commonwealth titles in the 100m and 200m events, will also skip the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in August.

McKeown stated she is "gutted to medically withdraw" but believes it is the correct decision for her health. She explained that what she initially thought was the flu has been diagnosed as glandular fever, and she is concerned about the risk of chronic fatigue if she pushes her body too hard. She was already unwell heading into Olympic trials.

Swimming Australia head coach Rohan Taylor expressed his support for McKeown's decision to prioritize her health, acknowledging her competitive spirit and status as a "once-in-a-generation athlete" and a "racer." Her absence represents a significant blow to Australia's medal prospects in Glasgow.
