Hampshire and England bowler John Turner has announced his retirement from professional cricket at the age of 25 due to a persistent stress fracture.

Turner, who made his Hampshire debut in 2021, took 97 wickets in 51 matches across all formats for the county. His impressive performances in the 2023 T20 Blast, where he took 21 wickets, earned him an England call-up. He also represented England Lions and played for Trent Rockets in The Hundred.

"It was always my dream to play professional and international cricket, and doing so for Hampshire and England has been nothing short of living out those same childhood dreams," Turner stated. The injury, which has kept him sidelined for over a year, prompted his decision to pursue future opportunities.

Giles White, Hampshire's director of cricket, acknowledged Turner's significant contribution to the club's success over the past five years, highlighting their achievements in various competitions. The club expressed sadness at the premature end to his playing career.
