Former boxing world champion Joe Cordina has pleaded not guilty to two charges of assault by beating. The alleged incident occurred outside a petrol station in the Cardiff suburb of Pentwyn in February. Cordina, 34, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court alongside Jamie O'Brien, 32, who also faces assault charges in connection with the same incident.

O'Brien did not enter a plea. The court previously heard the offences may have been against each other, with Cordina's representative stating one charge emanates from a continued incident. District Judge Charlotte Murphy granted Cordina unconditional bail until his trial on 13 October.

O'Brien's case was adjourned to 26 August. Cordina, a former super-featherweight world champion, was scheduled to fight for the WBO lightweight title in the US on July 4 but was denied a visa.
