Henry de Bromhead claimed his first Cheltenham Festival victory of 2026 when Heart Wood upset the odds to win the Ryanair Chase. The 9-2 shot, ridden by Darragh O'Keeffe, held off 2-1 favorite Jonbon and 3-1 chance Banbridge in a thrilling finish. Fact To File, last year's runner-up, was withdrawn before the race due to unsuitable ground conditions.

Heart Wood's victory marked a breakthrough for de Bromhead at this year's Festival. O'Keeffe praised his mount's performance, telling ITV he was grateful for the opportunity to ride for the successful trainer. Owner Brian Acheson deflected praise to the jockey, emphasizing that "it's about the jockeys and the trainers" rather than the owners.

Elsewhere at Cheltenham, White Noise delivered a 40-1 shock in the Mares' Novices' Hurdle, while Meetmebythesea gave JP McManus his first winner of the day at 9-1 odds in the Novices' Chase. Tom Bellamy fulfilled a lifelong dream by winning on White Noise, admitting he "bunked off school" to watch Cheltenham races as a child. Gordon Elliott and Joseph O'Brien also celebrated victories with Wodhooh and Home By The Lee respectively.
