Hamilton vs Verstappen: F1 Stars Split on New Rules

Lewis Hamilton says he finds Formula 1's new cars 'more fun' to drive, contrasting sharply with Max Verstappen's criticism of the sport's biggest rule change in history. The seven-time world champion, now in his second season with Ferrari, praised the reduced grip and different aerodynamic philosophy after finishing sixth in last year's drivers' championship.

F1 introduced sweeping changes to chassis, engines, tyres and fuel, creating a split among drivers. Verstappen likened the new cars to 'Formula E on steroids' and 'just not Formula 1,' citing excessive energy management requirements. Fernando Alonso agreed that driver skill matters less now, explaining that optimal energy management means taking some corners slower to gain more lap time on straights.

Hamilton acknowledged uncertainty about how the changes will affect racing but said he enjoys the cars' responsiveness and ease of correction. 'They're easier to correct. So you have snaps and keep them on track,' he explained. The contrasting views highlight how the new regulations have divided the paddock, with some drivers embracing the challenge while others question whether the changes have compromised the sport's core appeal.
