At the Winter Paralympics in Cortina, Pickle the guide dog has become an unexpected star alongside Britain's 25 athletes. The eight-year-old black labrador retriever belongs to Hester Poole, who is competing in visually impaired Para-alpine skiing events. Pickle has been stealing attention at ParalympicsGB House in the Italian mountains.

Poole, who has had severely limited vision since birth, describes Pickle as "a very good girl" who loves the mountain environment. "She loves the mountains - she's always really bouncy when she sees the snow," Poole said. The guide dog's enthusiasm for the snowy setting has made her a favorite among team members and visitors at the Paralympic headquarters.

The bond between Poole and Pickle extends to the slopes, where the guide dog waits at the bottom of the piste. "When she comes skiing, it's nice to get to the bottom of the piste, win or lose, and have this furry ball of love waiting for me," Poole explained. Their partnership highlights the important role service animals play in Paralympic competition.
