England Rejects Future Pink-Ball Ashes Tests

England will oppose any move to stage day-night Ashes Tests with a pink ball during the 2029-30 series in Australia. The ECB signaled this position after post-series talks with Cricket Australia, following England's heavy defeat in the recent Brisbane pink-ball Test.

The decision stems from concerns over the pink ball's visibility under lights and mixed feedback from players and former cricketers. Joe Root recently questioned whether the Ashes needed such a fixture, although broadcast appeal remains a key factor for promoters.

Australia has championed day-night Tests, winning 14 of 15 globally. England, in contrast, have struggled—losing four of seven, including three in Australia. Despite this, CA plans a one-off pink-ball match in 2027 to mark the MCG’s 150th anniversary.

Looking ahead, both boards agreed to enhance England’s warm-up schedule before the next Ashes. England will pick a first-class venue ahead of the 2029 tour, addressing criticism of their recent lackluster prep.
