England may walk off over racial abuse in Argentina

England captain Jamie George says the team is considering walking off the pitch if any players suffer racial abuse during Saturday's match against Argentina in Santiago del Estero. Last year's win in San Juan was marred by abuse targeting replacements Asher Opoku-Fordjour and Chandler Cunningham-South. World Rugby condemned the incident but were unable to identify perpetrators.

Tensions remain high after November's meeting where Argentina coach Felipe Contepomi called England flanker Tom Curry a "bully" following a tunnel altercation at Allianz Stadium. Add in a Lionel Messi-inspired football World Cup semi-final comeback and a passionate atmosphere is expected in northern Argentina.

George, 35, captaining the side with Maro Itoje rested, said leaving the field is an option should abuse recur. "It's something being considered. If anything like that happened then it deserves the strongest of reactions." The first step would be alerting the referee so protocols can be activated; further actions are still being decided. George emphasized ongoing conversations with players from different ethnic backgrounds to formulate a plan.

England have won nine of their past 10 meetings with the Pumas.
