The New York Giants released wide receiver Darius Slayton on Monday, ending his seven-year tenure with the team. Slayton, a fifth-round pick in 2018, was the longest-tenured player on the roster. He recorded 296 catches for 4,435 yards and 22 touchdowns in New York.

Slayton, 29, was due $13 million this season, and the move creates over $3 million in cap space. He expressed gratitude on social media, saying, "Grateful for my time in NY. 7 years a Giant nothing but love."

The release comes after Slayton fell out of favor with new coach John Harbaugh, who arrived this summer. Harbaugh's new offense and the additions of Darnell Mooney and Odell Beckham Jr. pushed Slayton down the depth chart. He also dealt with core muscle surgery in the spring.

Despite the setbacks, Slayton had been a consistent performer, leading the team in receiving four times. He is now a free agent and can sign with any team.
