England suffered a crushing 270-run defeat against India in the one-off women's Test at Lord's, their second-heaviest loss in Test history. India declared at 341-7 (Bhatia 113) after a first-innings 285 (Mandhana 83), setting England an impossible target.

Resuming at 130-6, England were bowled out for 186 before lunch on the final day. Amy Jones top-scored with 54, but Sneh Rana (4-42) and Deepti Sharma dismantled the tail. Sophie Ecclestone scored a resilient 50 after her five-wicket haul, but her dismissal ended the innings.

England were outclassed in all departments, averaging just four runs per wicket when the ball hit the stumps. The defeat marks a disappointing end to the Test careers of Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont, who fell cheaply on day four.

England now turn to The Hundred starting 21 July, before a white-ball series against Ireland in September begins their transition without the retired stalwarts.
