Doha Diamond League shifted to June amid Middle East turmoil

The season‑opening Doha Diamond League meet has been shifted from May 8 to June 19 after the Middle East conflict escalated. Originally slated for Qatar Sports Club, the event will now run at the Khalifa International Stadium. Organisers cite security concerns stemming from US‑Israel strikes on Iran and the need for a safer environment, and to protect the integrity of the circuit.

Temperatures in Qatar routinely top 40°C in early summer, prompting the switch to a climate‑controlled venue. The stadium, which hosted the 2019 World Athletics Championships, can maintain safe conditions for athletes and spectators. The rescheduled meet will sit between Oslo on June 10 and Paris on June 28, becoming the eighth leg of the 2024 series after the Chinese opener on May 16.

Diamond League officials say they will keep monitoring the situation and remain committed to delivering secure competition for athletes, media and fans. The postponement mirrors wider disruptions, including the cancellation of Formula 1 races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia earlier this month. With the Doha date now fixed, the circuit can proceed without further calendar gaps.
