Promoter Kalle Sauerland believes Michael Conlan can break into the WBC's top three featherweight rankings with a victory over undefeated American Kevin Walsh this Friday. The Belfast boxer returns to the SSE Arena since his December 2023 defeat by Jordan Gill, defending his WBC International featherweight title currently ranked ninth.

Sauerland sees Conlan's drawing power as a major asset for securing big fights, with Bruce Carrington identified as the target. "He's a ticket pull, his route to a world title is much easier as you have champions who may not be a draw," Sauerland stated. Victory could set up a championship bout for the Olympic bronze medalist.

Conlan joined MF Pro after a 15-month hiatus, showing maturity by turning down money for a low-key return fight. "When you think he hasn't won a world title, it doesn't feel real," Sauerland remarked, noting Conlan came within 90 seconds of a world title against Leigh Wood in 2022. The Belfast man's high profile remains despite past title fight disappointments.
