England fast bowler Brydon Carse will face no further action after a police investigation into an alleged assault in Derby was dropped.

Footage showed Carse in handcuffs on 23 August. He was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, then de-arrested. Derbyshire Police later confirmed it was looking at assault allegations. On Friday, police said: "An investigation into reports of an assault in Derby city centre has been closed."

Carse, 31, will now be investigated by the Cricket Regulator. The ECB and Carse have been approached for comment.

After being dropped from the second Test against Pakistan, captain Joe Root said he was "hacked off." Carse was also left out of squads for the third Test and the Sri Lanka white-ball series. The ECB said Carse should "take time for a proper reset."

White-ball coach Brendon McCullum said Carse needs to "get his house in order." Carse missed Durham's game against Worcestershire, with the county saying he was "unwell." The incident is the latest in a string of alcohol-related controversies for the England men's team.
