Welsh rugby has lost one of its finest centres with the death of Arthur Lewis at 84. The Ebbw Vale stalwart emerged from Crumlin RFC to join a club that dominated Welsh rugby during its peak years. Lewis formed a legendary centre partnership with John Dawes, one of the sport's most revered figures.

Lewis made his Wales debut in the 1970 Five Nations against France and became part of the celebrated 1971 Grand Slam side. He was named in the Lions tour party that year but never earned a cap despite playing 10 matches on tour. Across his career he won 11 Wales caps, scoring his only try against England in the 1973 Five Nations.

His leadership as captain produced a solid record of two wins and one loss. Lewis leaves behind a legacy as a key figure in Ebbw Vale's golden era and one of the most respected centres in Welsh rugby history.
