40-year-old Mark Allen secured a 13-11 victory over Barry Hawkins to reach the World Championship semi-finals at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre. The Northern Irishman, seeking to complete snooker's Triple Crown, showed resilience after the match resumed at 8-8, trading frames with the 2013 finalist before pulling ahead with his third century break of the contest.

Allen's progression represents his third semifinal appearance in 19 attempts at snooker's biggest prize. Despite having triumphed in the UK Championship and Masters previously, the world title has remained elusive. Hawkins made it difficult with 14 breaks of 50, but Allen's quality proved decisive as he sealed his place with a break of 59 in the dramatic final frame.

Should Allen capture the title, he would become the oldest first-time world champion in the modern era, surpassing Stuart Bingham's 2015 record. He faces either Wu Yize or Hossein Vafaei in a best-of-33 encounter starting Thursday. Allen expressed "relief more than anything" after his narrow victory, admitting "if you could have seen inner Mark when he didn't reach the pink, he was doing somersaults."
