New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso was unveiled at Stamford Bridge on Monday and confirmed he wants to keep Enzo Fernandez at the club. The 25-year-old Argentina midfielder, preparing for the World Cup semi-finals against England, has been linked with Real Madrid but the Spanish club denied interest, leaving him with a £120m asking price and no clear destination. Alonso said they have spoken privately about his future.

Nicolas Jackson will join the pre-season tour of Australia and Asia after Bayern Munich declined to make his loan permanent. Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho has not returned to training as he seeks a move, with Roma among interested clubs. Andrey Santos joined Manchester United hours before Alonso's press conference.

Alonso addressed Chelsea's failure to qualify for Europe after a final-day defeat by Sunderland, stating the lack of European football changes only "small details" for August preparations. He emphasized alignment with sporting directors on squad reinforcement and described leading Chelsea as a "privilege and honour."

The 44-year-old manager, training a large squad including Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro and Levi Colwill at Cobham, targets Champions League qualification as a minimum goal. "To reach that goal you have to do many things right," he said, adding the early days have been "happy" but the ambition remains high.
