The Women's Super League has confirmed the promotion play-off will take place on Saturday, May 23 at 12:30 BST at the home of the third-placed WSL 2 side. This marks the first such fixture in English women's football, with the winner earning a place in the expanded 14-team WSL next season.

Next year's expansion means the top two WSL 2 teams will earn automatic promotion, while the third-placed side will host the bottom WSL team in a decisive play-off. Leicester City currently occupy the relegation spot in the top flight, though they have a game in hand on both Liverpool and West Ham, who sit just above them.

The WSL 2 promotion race is heating up with six teams still in contention. Charlton Athletic hold a nine-point lead over Birmingham City, while Crystal Palace, Bristol City, Newcastle United, and Southampton remain mathematically in the hunt for the top three spots. The play-off will be broadcast live on BBC Two and Sky Sports.
