World Cup 2026: England Fans Resell Mexico Tickets for 57x Face Value

England supporters who secured tickets for Monday's World Cup last-16 clash with Mexico are relisting them on FIFA's official resale portal for staggering profits. Four tickets with a combined face value of just $605 (£460) are now asking $30,000 (£22,800) each - representing a markup of 57 times the original price. After FIFA's 15% buyer fee, purchasers would pay $34,500 (£26,220) per ticket.

These tickets originated from the England Supporters' Travel Club ballot, where members accumulate caps by attending matches to gain priority access. With 4,373 members competing for only 3,000 allocated tickets at the 80,824-capacity Azteca Stadium, demand far exceeded supply. Any fan with 27 or more caps guaranteed themselves a face-value ticket, creating a competitive system that now sees inflated secondary prices.

The resale scheme allows sellers to set their own asking prices, though buyers pay an additional 15% fee on top of the listed amount. While FIFA permits this practice, the Football Association cannot restrict these transactions. The ESTC has introduced an anti-touting policy following successful trials, though it remains unclear whether original purchasers or third parties are listing these marked-up tickets. Seventy-six supporter section tickets are currently available behind England's goal.

Monday's match kicks off at 01:00 BST in Mexico City, with BBC One broadcasting the fixture live. The ticket inflation reflects the intense demand for England's World Cup knockout stage appearances and the limited availability through official channels.
