Wolves forward Mateus Mane has become the subject of an international tug-of-war between England and Portugal. The 18-year-old, born in Barreiro, Portugal, has represented England's Under-18s since 2024 but is now being pursued by Portugal manager Roberto Martinez following his Premier League breakthrough.

Martinez, who previously worked with Wolves technical director Matt Jackson at Wigan, has been proactive in Portugal's pursuit of the talented teenager. Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proenca, appointed last year, is also keen to convince Mane to switch allegiance. Meanwhile, England Under-21 manager Lee Carsley maintains firm interest in the player.

Mane joined Wolves from Rochdale in February 2024 and made his Premier League debut in May 2024. This season, he has been one of the few bright spots in Wolves' troubled campaign, scoring twice in 20 appearances to become the club's youngest Premier League goalscorer. Despite his individual success, Wolves languish at the bottom of the table, 17 points from safety with 10 games remaining.
