Watford Stick With Under-Pressure Dionisi

Watford head coach Alessio Dionisi is expected to remain in charge for Saturday's Championship match at home to Charlton Athletic, according to BBC Three Counties Radio. The Hornets were thrashed 5-1 at Cardiff on Tuesday night, making it four successive Championship defeats and nine goals conceded in their past two games.

Asked about his future in the immediate aftermath, Dionisi said: "I don't like this question because it's impossible for me to answer. I take the team on the pitch and during the training - that question is not for me." The defeat dropped Watford into the relegation zone, yet the club is not changing its manager despite the wretched run, BBC 3CR sports editor Geoff Doyle said.

Doyle described it as a surprise to those who watched the 5-1 loss at Cardiff and the 4-0 defeat to Burnley on Saturday. He said the club appeared to want to break the cycle of rotating managers and being hasty in dismissing bosses. Watford began the season with a three-game unbeaten run, including an opening-day victory over Southampton, but have won only one Championship game since, against bottom side Preston.

Dionisi was appointed in June, becoming the club's 12th permanent boss since the end of the 2020-21 season. Doyle warned the decision is unlikely to appease supporters, adding that the groundswell of support is against owner Gino Pozzo and how the club is being run.
