Refereeing mistakes in the Premier League have risen across most categories this season, with VAR errors already matching last year's total. The league's Key Match Incidents panel identified 54 errors through 30 games, up from 44 at the same stage last season. Professional Game Match Officials says the overall trend remains positive despite the increase.

This season has seen 18 VAR errors compared to 38 across the entire 2022-23 campaign. The number of missed VAR interventions has grown to 15, while on-field errors reached 25. Incorrect second yellow card decisions also increased to 11. However, incorrect VAR reviews improved slightly, falling from four to three.

During matches between March 14-16, the panel found three missed penalties that should have been awarded. Arsenal was denied a spot-kick when Michael Keane fouled Kai Havertz, while Reece James pulled back Malick Thiaw for Newcastle. Brentford also missed out when Kevin Schade was held by Andre. An incorrect second yellow card for Leeds' Gabriel Gudmundsson at Crystal Palace marked the fourth error. Despite these issues, VAR interventions have decreased from 89 to 83 this season, and stoppage delays have improved by 25% to an average of 48 seconds.
