Tottenham teenager Mason Melia has earned his first senior call-up to the Republic of Ireland squad for the upcoming friendlies against Qatar and Canada. The 18-year-old striker, who joined Spurs from St Patrick's Athletic in January for £1.6m, has scored three goals in six appearances for Ireland's under-21 side.

Melia broke through at St Patrick's Athletic in 2023, netting 21 goals in 76 League of Ireland appearances before his move to north London. Heimir Hallgrimsson has included four League of Ireland players in his 24-man squad, with Shamrock Rovers duo Ed McGinty and Adam Brennan earning maiden call-ups alongside Bohemians midfielder Dawson Devoy and Cork City goalkeeper Conor Brann.

Several other players received their first senior call-ups, including Lecce defender Corrie Ndaba, Newcastle United's Alex Murphy, Middlesbrough midfielder Alex Gilbert and Tondela's Joe Hodge. Seamus Coleman, who recently announced his departure from Everton, is included for potentially the last time as he considers his future. Ireland face Qatar at the Aviva Stadium on 26 May before travelling to Montreal to face World Cup co-hosts Canada on 6 June.
