Robert Lewandowski Heading to Chicago Fire in Major MLS Move

Poland's record goalscorer Robert Lewandowski is nearing a move to Chicago Fire after his contract with Barcelona expired. The 37-year-old is expected to sign a two-year contract, likely becoming one of the highest earners in Major League Soccer. Chicago held him on their discovery list to prevent other clubs from poaching the striker without payment.

Lewandowski brings an elite resume to the Eastern Conference, including 120 goals in 193 games for Barcelona. While injuries limited him to 17 league starts last season, his pedigree remains unmatched. He won 10 Bundesliga titles and the 2020 Champions League, and secured the Best Fifa Men's Player Award in both 2020 and 2021.

This signing provides a massive cultural and sporting boost to a city with one of the largest Polish communities outside Poland. Chicago currently sits third in the Eastern Conference after their first play-off appearance last year. They return to action on July 17 against Vancouver following the World Cup break.

Barcelona is already restructuring their attack following his exit. They spent over 80m euros on Anthony Gordon and are now targeting Harry Kane. The Spanish club is also waiting on a decision regarding Marcus Rashford, who previously spent a season on loan from Manchester United.
